‘Linda Goa’! ‘Amchem Sundor Goem’! GOEMPURI IS MORE LIKE IT!

As the ancient sage says 'Human beings never realize what they have or had until it's all gone'. Goa is almost all gone; just a shadow of its past glory is what is left. As a matter of fact I believe 'GOA' was on loan to us. A very special gift from God, a blessing from the Great Mother Nature, Gaia, which ever way you would like to look at it -it was a rare precious gift and we were the 'care takers' to protect it, appreciate it, and we were supposed to be possessive of this gift! But instead look what we have done.

There is no place in the world that allows such a gross exploitation by outsiders on their homeland like the way we allow here in GOA! We are the ones who sold our land to every tom dick and migrant from Bihar, Karnataka, Gujarat, Delhi, Russia, Israel, Nigeria, etc the list is endless so let's cut to the chase and realize that most of us Goans did not realize how lucky we were. We have no one else to blame but ourselves. Luckily we still have a chance to save what is left of our motherland, and many Goan people are indeed working hard toward that goal. However I hope more Goan people join in and do their bit any which way they can.

A country like India with the 2nd largest population in the world has free access to our tiny state! Goa being an integral part of India now and as every Indian is free to live and work or set up business anywhere within the country … and all that is fine! But Goa is too small a place to allow such an indulgence for every Indian who has set his/her eyes on this tiny State and most of the Indians want a piece of Goa. Every day people are entering GOA by rail; road, air and many of them don't leave. The State Government still does not think it necessary to pursue a 'special status' (in the true sense of the word) for this tiny state as yet? Wonder why!

It's with a feeling of helplessness, despair and frustration that I write this knowing fully well I cannot do anything much to help stop this ruin of my homeland! I am so disgusted with this murder of Goa, this is my birthplace, and this is my home and I WANT TO LIVE IN GOA NOT GOEMPURI or some drug infested red light place. As I write this I do realize that all of us want to do something to stop this ruin of Goa but we just do not know HOW… maybe if all like-minded Goans people work together to find a way, free from any political influence or pressure, we may still be able to save Goa from any further ruin.

I am trying to figure out what it is that I can do alone. I want to do something anything anyhow even if it is merely writing about it to begin with – because it's for my Goa! 'Minha GOA de Meu Curacao' she will always be.

In the name of 'development' 'Jobs for Goans' and 'Tourism' 'Modernization' of Goa, I can't stop laughing and crying at the same time, every time I give this a thought... Yeah yeah right 'modernization and development' indeed with 'paanpotee' and 'paanpotee spit' everywhere! Slums and more slums being put up in every vacant space, our land is being encroached by whoever fancies it, our beaches a rubbish strewn sight for sore eyes, drug peddlers and prostitutes spreading diseases and death. Our beautiful Mandovi River sold to the casin owners and  gambler.

I suppose that is part of 'development and modernization' in GOA. By the way will anyone please tell me who gave this government (or whoever is responsible for this gross liberty) the right to sell our Mandovi River to the casino gamblers? Who is responsible for allowing these people to invade our Mandovi River and our beautiful land for their ugly business? What a disgraceful ruin of God's very own land in every way! I have six words for the owners of the scrap/junk parked on our Mandovi River waters – 'Get out from our Mandovi river' take your monstrous junk casino boats and leave, sail away far away where we cannot see you because we can't stand you anymore on our Mandovi River.

The ratio of what is being taken from Goa and what is being given back by these businesses/ industries' including tourism, mining, migrants etc is a pathetic joke and even if there are benefits, it is not Goa that is enjoying the benefits. All we see is junk! The huge garbage mess is mounting in Goa to an unbelievable deadly bomb! Deadlier than any terrorist bomb threat according to me. They have poisoned our waters and environment, our lakes and streams choked to death, the mess is too shocking! Mosquitoes multiplying and spreading fatal diseases. Take a drive to Baga and have a look at the ruin of this once beautiful area. It looks like some mini 'Dharavi' Garbage strewn everywhere, plastic bottles and what have you …not an inch of space to take a step because of the congestion or some 'VIP underweeaar and bhaniaan' clad indecent pot bellied excuse for a domestic tourist walking about burping sneezing coughing spitting ogling etc shamelessly! Can't we have some rules here please? Shouldn't they be fined for indecent exposure and the litter they generate? It will add up to our states income in a big way! An opportunity our state government should consider!

Surely every Goan wants Goa to get its share of modernization and development but when we say that is necessary, we mean development first and foremost on the existing infrastructure which is falling apart (water, roads, transport etc) These are the things that are of utmost importance and then the rest can follow and as we see the situation going from bad to worse year after year, we still elect the same people to represent us in the government. This time around let us elect new candidates to represent us in the government, (if the present ones don't do their jobs as it should be done) and if there aren't any new candidates let's NOT vote until a new candidate emerges.

Tourism is what rakes in the 'money' for the state – sounds real good! BUT how much truth is there in that claim? Could it be that it is the sale of our land to outsiders? Our beautiful beaches, golden sands and clean environment that attracted the real tourist to Goa are now all sold to outsiders. Poisonous fumes from industrial areas contaminating our environment. Ironically everybody else around the globe wants to go 'green' and in Goa it is just the opposite! Our natural greenery is being reduced to a pathetic skeleton! Shouldn't the people proposing all these grand 'developmental plans' get ecologically literate first? Now they are proposing a 'sea link' connecting Panjim and Vasco! What are we tolerating here and for how long? Isn't it time to say 'NO MORE'? A sea link? What a disgraceful plan!

We have ruined Goa in the name of tourism and industrialization. This beautiful naturally gifted land and its culture could just well become a mere distant memory simply because there is no planning, no law or order to give Goa the 'special status' or system in place. We have to act now in any which way we can steadily and consistently.

The Goan people welcome development wholeheartedly if the natural beauty of Goa is protected and preserved. Who decides on all these 'development' plans for Goa? Is it only the state government or is it the Central Government of India? Does the central government of India know Goa well enough? Do they know the Goan people and what they want? I don't believe they do, they haven't been with Goa long enough.

The tourist who comes to Goa does not stay a tourist for long, he soon becomes a resident of this place... it's a free for all 'casa de antoka' that's what it is. Pedophiles and all sorts of criminals, drug peddlers, prostitutes, pimps, kidnappers, keep bringing their hell into Goa, exploiting Goa and the innocent and trusting people around. Is this how 'tourism' should be? We can't even take a walk on our beloved beaches of our childhood, … try taking a walk alone on some beach for 5 minutes in broad daylight and some 'paanpoti' eating 'leech' will appear from nowhere and hang around the whole time -we are no longer safe in our own home land? What the hell is that? Go to a Night club or shack, or night market and a shady drug peddler approaches you boldly trying to make a 'sale' Ecstasy?' 'Hashish? Etc they inquire! Pimps and prostitutes openly making 'business deals' we can see all this and the people who can put a stop to it cannot?!

The Goan people are a hospitable people and we love it that the whole world admires Goa (admired) the 'real tourist' is always welcome and respected by the people. However the ones who come here in disguise – those who come as 'tourists' and in a matter of days set up businesses and homes here and soon thereafter start bossing over the locals around… disrespecting the land and mocking its people… hell NO this is unacceptable. We want Tourism to flourish here, not drugs and drug peddlers, builders and migrants! I can well imagine how Goa will be 5 years from now! They claim of the tourists returning to Goa year after year – 'repeat tourist' if you please! That's a bizarre claim because a lot of the 'tourists' who return to Goa year after year are drug peddlers, drug addicts and flesh traders as 'diehard' tourist (the best places to find out if this is a fact are the Night Markets-year after year we see the same so called 'tourists' hordes of them, some of them even wearing the same clothes they wore the previous season hanging around doing their 'funny business'! This kind of tourist is not welcome anywhere in the world, and so they come to Goa. Ironically we claim that tourism is our biggest 'money raker' and then the very reason Goa is a tourist attractant is being ruined and murdered systematically -Great planners and visionaries these! Very soon it won't even matter what the Goan people want or do not want because we will be a complete insignificant minority! Let us not allow that to happen! At least let us try because we still can We are still here in a majority!

I am asking -Do Goan people want to see five star hotels/restaurants etc being constructed on the beaches of Goa?! Most of the Goans don't. If the outsiders (and even locals) must start their hotel/restaurant business in Goa, can't they find land elsewhere away from the beaches in Goa? Does a self-respecting dignified Goan want to see and hear their blessed land being promoted by weirdoes as a 'red light haven'? … Pimps and prostitutes from Russia, Thailand, Nagaland, Manipur, Bombay, and Timbuktu have made Goa their permanent hangout to czarry out their shady business(with the help of some weird locals as well) and we just stand and stare helplessly? Enough is enough it's time to put a stop to this nonsense.

I have been reading in the media, that the drug peddler who calls himself 'atala' was arrested some time back in Goa and is now out on bail? While a Goan ex-minister could not get bail?! (Excuse me but it is just an observation) anyway let this loser 'Atala' get bailed or nailed I don't care... what I care about is that this scum of the world be deported out from My GOA! This person has no right to hang around in my homeland. We don't want to see him around our homeland. This is NOT a 'casa de antok' this is our birthplace, this is our home! So whoever the hell you are, just get out of here – just get lost in the wretchedness you call your life in your own country NOT IN MY COUNTRY!

I suggest everyone including the elected members of our government and especially law enforcing agencies get thoroughly educated about the dangers of drugs and drug peddlers on the vitality of this State. It's lack of education on this particular subject that is the cause for the drug situation in Goa to take root and reach such a dangerous level! It is greed and ignorants who have facilitated this murderous activity in Goa. If things are not taken into serious control these drug peddlers will eventually damage and scare our children ...and the youth of Goa who are the future of Goa! These rogue drug peddlers will eventually even control our Government. Just imagine the future of Goa in the hands of drug peddlers and facilitators! Sounds like a horror movie!

Take a look at the migrants and Contractors in Goa – they bring these laborers to Goa for the construction work and to accommodate them they build slums without toilets – the result excrement galore all over Goa. Not so long ago I remember the monsoons in Goa, as we all know that Goa is a real beauty in the rains, the fragrance in the air was amazing unforgettable! It always had that beautiful monsoon dewy freshness in the air -I marveled at its sheer bloom in amazement every single time! NOW all we smell is stench and excreta! I ask again who is responsible for this and who can enforce some rules to these builders? We can! by asking our representative in the government to take a very serious note of this if he/she wants to get elected again.

Finally I would like to address this paragraph to the destroyers of Goa: Whoever you are whether politicians, land sharks, builders, etc whoever you are, go ahead carry on with your murder of GOA… for your sick diseased greed for money (money which does not belong to you at all) Drug peddlers pimps, and prostitutes … go ahead have a field day -but know his much -a. you need psychiatric help b. you are cursed and hated by every one who loves Goa and wants to save Goa from this ruin, for stealing everything from our land for bleeding Goa dry, for betraying our hospitality, for ruining its name and its image around the world as a 'red light haven' for exploiting GOA to promote sex, porn and drugs as a (sick) attraction to lure (sick) so called tourists to your (sick) business setups in GOA. It's the illiterate losers who have set up such businesses in Goa. We pray and we hope that you pay dearly, for the damage you have caused to our homeland. No one can mess with Planet Earth and get away with it. That is an indulgence Mother Earth does not allow anyone. Whoever is the architect of this ruin and relentless exploitation of this beautiful land is answerable to Mother Earth/Gaia and will pay a huge price eventually. It is the 'Law of the Universe'. There is no escape!
